Global audience

Creating a space for people to connect

An incredible opportunity to lead programming and DEI efforts for the Asians@ community resource group. This work was in addition to normal job responsibilities and required programming, recruitment and providing resources to community members during both good and turbulent times.

Intentional moments with thoughtful planning

From monthly meetings to planned guest speakers, the leadership team created moments for employees to join. Outside of DEI requirements, other moments and needs surfaced depending on current events and member’s requests.

  • Maintaining global-mindset with process and programs

Members from Shanghai to Philippines required specific strategy in terms of translating participation and engagement.

  • Leading a team with variety of talent

Positions are open to anyone interested in leading, utilizing the skills of hand-raisers enabled the leadership team to stretch and lean into their strenghts.

  • Creating process and documentation for activities for future-leaders

Utilizing tooling (Trello, Figma and Asana) to create documentation and process for ease of transition to next leadership team.

Global-first program planning

While every Community Resource Group (CRG) has unique needs, the most prevalent one for Asians@ was the location of its members. To ensure all members enjoyed the planning, funding and resources our team worked hard to understand the unique needs and cultural differences.

How we created universal fun

  • Advocated for more video-recorded sessions and meetings throughout the company.
  • Advocated for extra funding for in-person meetings for teams in the Philippines.
  • Utilized Figjam and other online tooling to create experiences that could be accessed during all times of the day.
  • Created roles to bridge the time zones.
  • Met with members outside of working hours to ensure alignment and provide voices that US-centric teams don’t usually hear.

Leading the team and documentation

Leaning into our team

from sales to creative our team was composed of talented individuals who were seeking work fulfillment outside of their day-to-day tasks. To enable growth we utilized the following methods for our team:

  • Assigned roles based on interest and capacity.
  • Created specific programming to lean into interests (ex. Recipe share out).
  • Learning each other’s culture by creating specific programming.
Creating documentation for future leaders

While the role was not permanent, I wanted to enable future leaders to utilize previous templates, organization and project management software that helped our team be successful. Other future-proofing ideas included:

  • Multiple figjams that other CRGs utilized for their programming.
  • Leaning into Google Sites to create messaging and a place for creativity.
  • Creating a document of learnings to pass along.
